A COUPLE WHO WERE THE HOUSE PARENT AND TOOK CARE OF THOSE 10 BOYS, UM, UNDER THE DIRECTION OF OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR AT THE TIME, DOCTOR BOSTICK. UM AND WE EVOLVED IN 1965 TOOK CARE FOR 12 ADDITIONAL YOUNG BOYS. TODAY WE'RE MUCH DIFFERENT THAN HOW THEY F OUNDED US. UH 60 YEARS AGO. TODAY WE HAVE NINE HOUSES ON OUR CAMPUS HERE IN GROVE CITY. THAT PROVIDES A UNIQUE MILIEU, DEPENDING ON THE NEEDS OF THE YOUTH SET OF WE MAY HAVE ONE COTTAGE THAT IS COED YOUNGER CHILDREN. WE MAY HAVE ANOTHER COTTAGE THAT IS SPECIFICALLY FOR BOYS OR SPECIFICALLY FOR GIRLS. AND SO WE DO THAT BASED HEALTH NEEDS OF THE KIDS. ARE YOU ABLE TO STILL SEE ME? YES, WE ARE. OKAY? AND. NOT ONLY HAVE WE EVOLVED IN SCOPE AND SIZE AT THE RANCH, BUT WE ALSO HAVE EVOLVED AS SCIENCE HAS EVOLVED, AND AS WE'VE LEARNED ABOUT HOW TO TREAT CHILDREN WHO HAVE. MENTAL HEALTH CONDITIONS. AND SO TODAY WE OFFER UM PSYCHIATRY.WE HAVE A FULL TIME PSYCHIATRIST. WE HAVE NURSE PRACTITIONERS EMPLOYED IN OUR CAMPUS. WE CONTRACT WITH MOUNT CARMEL TO HAVE? UM A PHYSICIAN WHO OVERSEES THE PHYSICAL HEALTH CARE OF THE STAFF. I'M SORRY OF THE KIDS WE SERVE. EVERY YEAR ON OUR RESIDENTIAL MENTAL HEALTH TREATMENT CAMPUS WE SERVE, UM ABOUT 275 KIDS, AND THAT MEANS THAT ABOUT 110 TO 120 NEW KIDS ENTER OUR CAMPUS EVERY YEAR. FROM VARIOUS COUNTIES. UM WE SERVE ALMOST 60 COUNTIES ACROSS THE STATE WHERE WE GET REFERRALS OF ABOUT SOMEWHERE BETWEEN 12 HUNDREDS OF 1400 KIDS EVERY YEAR THAT ARE REFERRED TO US. THAT MENTAL HEALTH TREATMENT HAPPENS IN VARIOUS WAYS. WE HAVE A SMALL ANIMAL THERAPY WHERE WE HAVE VERY LARGE RABBITS, UM GUINEA PIGS, REPTILES THAT WE USE TO ENGAGE THE KIDS TO TALK ABOUT THEIR FEELINGS. IS RECREATIONAL THERAPY, ART THERAPY, AND WE EVEN HAVE ADVENTURE THERAPY ON THE CAMPUS. UM ALL TORCH THE GOAL OF HELPING KIDS RESTORE THEIR HOPE. AND THEN BEGIN THEIR JOURNEY OF HEALING. ON THAT CAMPUS WE ALSO HAVE, AS SOME OF YOU ARE VERY WELL AWARE A LOT OF LICENSED MASTERS LEVEL ON THIS SHINS WHO DO THAT TREATMENT WITH THE KIDS. AND THAT HAPPENS BOTH ON OUR CAMPUS DIRECTLY WITH THE YOUTH. BUT ALSO CONCURRENTLY IN FRANKLIN COUNTY AND THE SURROUNDING COUNTIES WHERE WE HAVE THE THERAPIST GOING INTO THE HOME OF THE FAMILY SO THAT WE CAN PREP THE FAMILY AND BEGIN. TO PREPARE THEM FOR THE EVENTUAL, UM, RETURN HOME OF THEIR CHILD.

BUCKEYE RANCH OUT OF THAT ALMOST 200. UH RESIDENTIAL TREATMENT IS OUR MOST RESTRICTIVE LEVEL OF CARE AT THE RANCH. IT IS WHERE WE SERVE CHILDREN AND YOUTHS WHO HAVE, UM. MENTAL ILLNESS OR, UH, BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CONCERNS BASED ON TRAUMA THAT THEY HAVE SUFFERED. THE MAJORITY OF THE CHILDREN WE SERVE. UH COME TO THE ATTENTION, UM, OF CHILD PROTECTIVE SERVICES WHERE THEY HAVE, UM. DECIDED TO TAKE CUSTODY BECAUSE OF SAFETY REASONS. UM AND SO THAT IS WHERE THE MAJORITY OF THE KIDS GET REFERRED TO US, BUT WE DO HAVE QUITE A NUMBER OF KIDS ACTUALLY TRYING TO AVOID WARD SHIP. IF THE COUNTY WILL COME TO US THROUGH LOCAL COUNCILS, WHERE THEY WILL REFER KIDS TO US AS WELL. YOU KNOW, WE STARTED WITH THEM WHAT WE CALL THE MOM AND POP FAMILY MODEL. TODAY WE HAVE 24 HOUR, STOPPING SEVEN DAYS A WEEK. A 3 65. AND OHIO REQUIRES RESIDENTIAL TREATMENT FACILITIES LIKE THE BUCKEYE RAN TO HAVE A MINIMUM OF 1 TO 10 STAFF. WE ACTUALLY BELIEVE IN A RATIO CLOSER TO 1 TO 4, AND SO WE BUDGET AND STAFF AT A MUCH MORE RESTRICTIVE RATIO. BECAUSE THE NEEDS OF THE YOUTH WERE SERVING HAVE CHANGED. WHILE ARGO AND HISLOP UNITS ARE VERY HOMEY, AND WHERE THE ORIGINAL UNITS WE UNDERSTAND THAT WE NEED TO MODERNIZE OUR CAMPUS. AND SO THE BOARD HAS ASKED ME TO BEGIN. EXPLORING THE POSSIBILITY OF EXPANDING OUR CURRENT CAMPUS, ACTUALLY NOT EXPANDING, ACTUALLY REPLACING SOME OF OUR OLDER UNITS SO THAT WE CAN MEET THE HIGHER ACUITY NEEDS OF THE KIDS WERE SERVING TODAY. AND SO HERE YOU WILL SEE THE BEGINNING OF OUR PLANNING, UM, TO BEGIN ADDING A NEW EDUCATIONAL CENTER TO OUR CAMPUS. AS WELL AS, UM 48 BADS NEW BEDS THAT WOULD REPLACE THE OLDER UNITS THAT WE HAVE ON THE CAMPUS. TO MEET THE NEEDS OF THE KIDS WE HAVE TODAY. UM SO WE ARE EXPLORING THIS POSSIBILITY TODAY TRYING TO SECURE FUNDING TO MOVE FORWARD WITH THAT. AND SO I AM HOPING THAT WE WILL BE ABLE TO MAKE A DECISION AND BEGAN COMING TO YOU, UM BY YEAR END OR THE BEGINNING OF 2022 TO DETERMINE IF THIS IS SOMETHING THAT WE CAN DO ON THE GROVE CITY CAMPUS. SO I'M VERY APPRECIATIVE FOR ALLOWING ME TO COME AND TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE SERVICES AT THE BUCKEYE RANCH. YOU KNOW, TODAY I HAVE SPOKEN A LOT ABOUT OUR RESIDENTIAL MENTAL HEALTH TREATMENT HERE AND GROW CITY WHERE WE SERVE ABOUT 275 CHILDREN. BUT THE REALITY IS THAT THE BUCKEYE RANCH HAD GROWN. AND THEN ALSO, UM ARE COMMUNITY BASED. AND SERVICES, WHICH ARE REALLY MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES BROUGHT INTO THE COMMUNITY INTO FAMILIES, HOMES SO THAT WE CAN HELP FAMILIES COPE WITH OUR CHILD WHO HAS MENTAL HEALTH. I JUST BELIEVE THAT WE HAVE TO COURSES OF ACTION THAT CAN HELP US, UH, VACCINATION AND MASK WEARING AND I ENCOURAGE YOU TO GIVE THAT SERIOUS THOUGHT BECAUSE THAT'S WHERE WE ARE. I'M WATCHING THE NUMBERS. THE HOSPITAL. UH ADMISSIONS. THE PEOPLE ON VENTILATORS. UM IT IS NOT GOOD NEWS, AND, UM AND I'M JUST ENCOURAGE THE COMMUNITY TO GIVE IT SOME THOUGHT.
